Blackrock Tidy Towns have secured further funding to carry out enhancement work in the village during 2012. Grant aid amounting to 75% of the total cost of over €11,000 has been awarded by Louth Leader Partnership under the current Rural Development Programme, which is funded by the Irish exchequer and the EU.
The money will be used to add a number of features to the Tidy Towns popular biodiversity garden in Blackrock Park. This will include the construction of wooden pathways, the building of some raised beds for further planting and insect habitats, and a native Irish hedge to surround the area. Some of the hanging baskets on Main Street will also be upgraded, and new wooden planters will be installed on Sandy Lane to accommodate summer floral displays there. The planters will be made by RehabCare in Dundalk, who are in discussion with Blackrock Tidy Towns with a view to co-operating on a number of future projects in the village.
All the work will be completed by the end of May in time for this year’s national Tidy Towns competition. |
