Tidy Towns Complete Work Plan PDF Print E-mail

Blackrock Tidy Towns have completed their work plan to prepare the village for this year's Tidy Towns competition.enhancement2010a  Over €30,000 in total has been spent in the last two months, made possible by grant aid from Louth Leader Partnership under the current Rural Development Programme, and with support funding from The Fairways Hotel.

The Sundial has been upgraded to celebrate its tenth anniversary, with new paving, state-of-the-art seating, and feature lighting.  New seating has also been installed at both ends of the promenade, and information panels have been erected on the promenade wall highlighting the birds and other sea creatures that inhabit the seashore.  The village entrance feature at Haggardstown Cross has had floodlighting installed, complementing the entrances at Greengates and The Loakers.

Flags, sponsored by Tiernan's Centra, have been erected all along the promenade and at the entrances to Blackrock, adding to the seaside character of the village, and for the tenth year Haggardstown Garden Centre have installed flowering tubs along the promenade wall as part of the "Blackrock in Bloom" initiative.  They will also erect hanging baskets along Main Street by the middle of the month.

enhancement2010b"We are delighted to see that a number of property owners, especially on Main Street, have painted their premises in preparation for the judging" said a Tidy Towns spokesperson. "It is important to remember that it is Blackrock that is judged in this competition, not just the work carried out by ourselves and the CE Scheme.  Details of how individual property owners can contribute to the overall appearance of the village throughout the summer are available on the Tidy Towns pages of this website.  Last year Blackrock was just one point short of a medal.  This year, with the help of everyone in the village and the continued support of the County Council, we hope to get those extra few points which will earn the village its first medal" he said.
