Blackrock continues to impress the judges in the various competitions which took place over the summer.  At the Louth Looking Good awards for 2009, the village picked up a number of prestegious prizes.

In the overall best town/village category it was judged second best in the county, beaten onlblackrock in bloom - aug 08  16y national prize-winners Tallanstown.  A gold award was presented in the county Litter League with Blackrock being rated 93% clean, and St. Fursey’s Terrace and Gort na Glaise both received awards for the most improved housing estates in their categories.  Two of the shopfronts on Main Street received prizes for their contribution to the appearance of the village, The Bayview Inn (which is a regular winner in this category), and The Brake.

John Horan, chairperson of Blackrock Tidy Towns, again thanked everyone involved in presenting Blackrock to this exceptional standard, including the committee, all the volunteer litter patrollers, the CE scheme and County Council personnel, and the Probation Service.  “We especially want to acknowledge Main Street businesses and residents for presenting their premises to such a high standard, and all the residents associations who put such a huge effort into the presentation of their estates. The Tidy Towns congratulates all the prizewinners” he said.
