Cross Cause was delighted with the success of their Coffee n' Treat Day held on Friday November 20th in "Venus" , as an extenion of our own Shop n' Community Centre, two doors up, on the Main Street of Blackrock.
The day was a huge success, raising €898 , with the hope of a further donation from Dundalk Lions Club. When one of our volunteers drew attention to the fact that the usual County Council financial contribution towards the Senior Citizen Christmas party was not available this year, Cross Cause embraced the opportunity to fund raise for these valued members of our community.
Derek Leary and Paul Casey, two of the Cross Cause volunteers, dressed up for the occasion!
The proceeds raised will go entirely towards the cost of a three course meal and a glass of wine at Dundalk Golf Club on the 6th December.
The success of the day was surely due to the community spirit it generated. Cross Cause volunteers created a beautiful and sociable atmosphere by dressing-up and decorating the room, reliving a bygone era. Brendan McCahey, from Beat-it Music Shop, added to the atmosphere by providing live music, singing and playing guitar. People joined him at the mike for a sing song and plenty could be seen dancing a walz or jig or two, all earning a spot prize for their efforts. Katarina Conneally Sloane, a beautician, travelled from Faughart to do facials and make-up on a number of lucky ladies and of course everyone was truly indulged with the finest of cakes and desserts from Cafe Acqua, The Home Bakery and others.
Further to this, and in recognition of the wonderful community spirit generated, Cross Cause would like to thank all the local businesses whose generous contrubutions towards the raffle and spot prizes made the entire day an enormous success. Thank you to Katarina Connealy Sloane, The Home Bakery, Café Acqua, Barry's Butchers, Blackrock Fruit and Vegetable Shop, Short Cuts, Coral Hair Salon, TheBayview, The Stonehouse, Bradley's Chemist and The Park Café. All prize winners and a list of prizes are displayed on the community noticeboard at the Post Office and in Venus shop wiindow. Cross Cause is always looking for new volunteers to man their Shop n' Centre which is open 7 days a week, 10 am to 6pm each day. If you think you could offer a half or full day to help us , please contact Aine at 08
