harry_lee_09A big thanks to radio presenter Harry Lee who took part in the first ever INTERNET RADIO broadcast on BlackrockVillage.ie from Danny Hughes shop to promote the CrossCause Pancake Day for Haiti.

All funds raised will be used to buy essential medical supplies to be used by the Orthopaedic team from Cappagh hospital who are travelling out to Haiti shortly. Cross Cause is appealing for donations of medical aids including crutches, artificial limbs, wheelchairs, hospital beds, pressure relief mattresses, etc, to add to their supplies destined for Haiti. So thanks to all those who volunteered and donated on the day. The fantastic sum of €2227 was raised and dozens of pancakes were cooked and enjoyed. The Tombola was a great success with super prizes for young and not so young!

Further Internet Radio Broadcasts are planned from throughout Blackrock so if you have any ideas for our next broadcast location then send us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we could be putting you on air.

St Stcross_football09ephen’s fund raiser a terrific success!

If you were passing through Blackrock on St Stephen’s Day you would have wondered had you been transported to another place when you spotted all the “French men” wandering around wearing their stripy sweaters and berets with strings of garlic hanging from their necks! To add to the atmosphere there was an “Eiffel tower” standing proudly on the beach.
No,  you were not in Paris, but Blackrock, host to the replay of the French v Ireland Football match! Kieran Philips, the unbelievably funny MC for the day, introduced the two 5-a-side teams as they emerged from their changing marquee on the beach. Interestingly the French team all sported giant sized hands which they liberally used during the match!
The game ended in a draw and a penalty shoot out during which a Giant Hand (Conor Hughes) rushed onto the pitch, stole the ball and raced up the Eiffel tower, hotly pursued by the French team. When he reached the top he replaced the tricolour of France with the green, white and gold Irish Flag to cheers from the spectators!

2008 Fundraiser

Every year on St Stephens Day, Conor Hughes, the director of the charity, holds an annual fun day carrying out themed stunts on the beach at Blackrock. Last year Conor was put to bed in his giant four poster !  There is always a fantastic atmosphere and groups of volunteers join in and help out during the day handing out information sheets, collecting money on the streets and serving tea and coffee to the many well wishers and supporters who come to enjoy the day.

This year the fun will be based around an Irish 40'  Eiffel Tower and will be running from 10am to 5pm. As usual it will be held opposite Danny Hughes' shop and this year with the use of the Blackrock Village Web Cam you will be able to enjoy the fun even if you can't  be in Blackrock. There will also be the opportunity to donate online by going to the Cross Cause website.

COME ALONG AND JOIN IN THE FUN!

Conor would like to thank everyone who donated toys for the Flood Victims Appeal. He took the truck over on Monday, 21st December, and presented them to the Athlone St Vincent de Paul where they were most gratefully received.
