U8 Rock Celtic

Rock Celtic U8 participated in the Fastfix DSL Summer League playing 13 games during the summer with a season finale 7 a side blitz in Oriel Park on 5th September. The players had 3 games (v. Bellurgan, Woodview and Quay). We had a squad of 16 with each player playing one and a half games. Our record was W1, D1 & L1 with every player giving 100% commitment throughout all games. There was a medal ceremony afterwards and each played received a ticket to a Dundalk FC match of their choice.

The players returned to Rock Celtic Clubrooms afterwards for a small party and were represented with their medals by Rock Celtic Chairman Donal Lynch.

Many thanks to the DSL and Dundalk FC for organising a very enjoyable and professional event. Training continues at 11am each Saturday morning at Rock Celtic with all kids welcome to join us.

Triathlon 09The 6thBlackrock Sprint Triathlon took place last weekend with over 270 competitors entered from all around the country. At first it looked like the weather would be kind this year but unfortunately the wind and rain picked up only hours before the start providing another challenge for the athletes.

A large number of Blackrock residents also took part, many only deciding in the weeks running up to the event to enter and brushed the dust off bikes and runners. For many this was their first triathlon and Blackrock is proving to be a popular starter triathlon for those wishing to see what it is all about. The Blackrock Tri consists of a 500m swim in the shallow waters of Blackrock beach which on Saturday proved to be very choppy indeed. Following the Swim competitors took to their bikes for a 16km cycle to Castlebellingham which was plain sailing due to the following wind but presented quite a challenge on the return journey. To finish up the competitors had to endure persistent rain and cold for their 6km run around the village. However few spirits were dampened and there was a great atmosphere around for the post event barbeque and prize giving which continued long into the evening.

St. Francis NS Intercultural DayEnjoying Intercultural Day @ St. Francis NS Intercultural Celebrations at St. Francis NS

St. Francis NS Celebrated Anti-Racism and Intercultural Day with a party on Friday, April 23rd. The Community Centre was ablaze with colour! Bunting, flags and maps made by the children adorned the walls, and the style had to be seen to be believed! Many children and their parents wore their national dress for the occasion, adding greatly to the festive atmosphere. Mothers and Dads rolled up their sleeves and got cooking! Sweet and savoury dishes from around the world were served buffet style, and the aroma on entering the Centre was mouth-watering! Traditional and modern music from around the world (kindly provided by parents) accompanied the festivities. The afternoon was rounded off with a beautiful display of Irish dancing by Ayla Laverty,  Áine Lawless and Jane Thompson from the Carmel Connolly School of Irish Dance. The day was such a success that it has been decided to make it an annual event. Roll on next year!!
