Following on from the success of "Celebrate The Beach Day", Blackrock Seaside Traders have planned another great family day taking place on Sunday 11th of July. The village will transform its self back in time with its first ever “Vintage Day” with a collection of old time vehicles and crafts on display. There will be a distinct nostalgic feel to the village with the traders dressing up in vintage clothes and decking out their shops in olden style. There will be an Antique Fair where visitors can treat themselves to a timeless treasure from the stall holders along with an exhibition of radio and gramophones from a bygone era.

Classic hands-on trades and skills  such as basket making and blacksmithing will be on display. Vintage clothing will be a plenty as there is a prize for the best costume, best lady and a best family, sponsored by Blackrock’s very own "After Sybil" Vintage clothing shop. During the day there will be walkabout performances to entertain the visitors, with a Laurel and Hardy visit planned.

There will of course  be a great selection of vintage autos on display, in particular a fine gathering of 2nd World War equipment and a beautiful selection of painstakingly restored classic tractors. The soundtrack to this day will be 40s and 50s music and during the day a live band will provide the sound for lovers of this music to dance to. Blackrock Seaside Traders stress that all events and displays are free and will encourage all visitors on the day to join the fun by coming along in their own vintage day outfit.

So come along and enjoy another day of fun, sea and live music in Blackrock this Sunday 11th July. For more details see www.blackrockvillage.ie or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Blackrock had its first ever ‘Celebrate The Beach Day’ on a sun kissed day in Blackrock Village, Co. Louth last Sunday and provided a fun day out for all the family.

The Blackrock Seaside Traders and Blackrock Tidy Towns came together to create a full day of events which started at 11:00am and continued right through until 6:00pm.

The aim of the day was to offer traditional family fun and create memories on the beach. Events included a Treasure Hunt, Duck Race, Raft Race and Live Music. All of the events were free to the public and were sponsored by local businesses that are all keen to give something back to the public in the current economic times.

"All the weeks of preparation really paid off," said Conor Hughes, chairman of the Blackrock Seaside Traders Group. "Thankfully it looked like everyone really enjoyed themselves and judging by the size of the crowds that came it looks like people will be coming back to Blackrock again and again this summer. It’s not everywhere that has such a beautiful location, friendly people, lots to do and the events we run are all for free!"

Traditionally, the annual Raft Race has always drawn a huge crowd to the Blackrock seafront and the Blackrock Seaside Traders group have been working on a series of activities to enhance this day.

Family Fun day 2St. Francis NS Family Fun Day

The Annual St. Francis NS Family Fun Day was held on Sunday June 14th. Families and friends gathered at the Community Centre in the hope that the weather would allow the activities to take place outdoors. However, nature dictated otherwise, and in the pouring rain, bouncy castles, decorations, and tables of refreshments were set up inside the Community Centre itself. Despite the weather, which failed to dampen spirits,  a good time was had by all. The children appeared not to notice the rain - being far too occupied on the bouncy castles which were kindly sponsored by Tony at Tumble 'N Fun (087-3196151), who also provided all in attendance with valuable vouchers.

SmileWelcome News Indeed!Smileupdated St. Francis red crest

A site on the Rock Road has been assessed by Planning Officials from the Department of Education and Science and found to be ideal in every way for the new St. Francis School Building. It is close to the Village, to all major housing areas, and has great road frontage - vital for the safe dropping-off and collection of children. Negotiations have passed the initial stages, and are now being conducted by Mr. Joe Mc Guinness (Planning Department, County Managers Office) and Mr. Jason Kearney (Principal Site Acquisitions Officer with the Department of Education and Science). The news is timely indeed, as although the intake of new pupils to both local schools is below capacity for September 2009, it is expected to far exceed this for September 2010. Negotiations will continue over the Summer months, and news on the outcome may be expected reasonably soon!
