SmileWelcome News Indeed!Smileupdated St. Francis red crest

A site on the Rock Road has been assessed by Planning Officials from the Department of Education and Science and found to be ideal in every way for the new St. Francis School Building. It is close to the Village, to all major housing areas, and has great road frontage - vital for the safe dropping-off and collection of children. Negotiations have passed the initial stages, and are now being conducted by Mr. Joe Mc Guinness (Planning Department, County Managers Office) and Mr. Jason Kearney (Principal Site Acquisitions Officer with the Department of Education and Science). The news is timely indeed, as although the intake of new pupils to both local schools is below capacity for September 2009, it is expected to far exceed this for September 2010. Negotiations will continue over the Summer months, and news on the outcome may be expected reasonably soon!

Blackrock Parks Committee Meeting to get views of Older People. PDF Print E-mail

Louise Wayenberg is organising a meeting on behalf of the Blackrock Parks committee to get the views and suggestions of older people living in Blackrock as to what they would like to see in Blackrock park, and how the park can be age friendly. This meeting will take place in the community centre, (Upstairs room) on Tuesday the 29th June at 8pm. The meeting will be chaired by Mary Deary from Louth County Council. I would like to invite the Older people in the community to attend and have their say in how the park can be age friendly. Louth is striving to be the first Age friendly County in Ireland. Louths Age friendly County alliance was set up with an ambitious strategy to improve the lives of older people in Louth and to  make the county a great place to grow old in. One of the specific areas in the plan is to establish a new Parks Programme by redesigning a designated area with parks to be 'age friendly', improving the landscaping, providing space for public activities and for exercise programmes such as chess and Tai Chi and the introduction of "Tone zones" for older people in these designated areas.

St. Francis NS Support Cross Cause

The children of St. Francis School recently presented Conor Hughes with a cheque for €300  raised during a fancy dress day, for his work with Cross Cause. Conor kindly spent  a considerable amount of time explaining how his work with the charity helps childen in other countries where conditions are not like those in Blackrock! The children in turn, gave Conor many helpful suggestions as to what he might buy for these children with the money raised, among them being paper, pencils, toothpaste, pyjamas and most improtantly - toilets!
