Celebrating inclusion and participation for all members of society regardless of background, ability, or circumstance.

The Intergenerational Cottage Garden in Blackrock Park is a celebration of inclusion, shared experiences and community connection. Created by children, parents and grandparents, the garden showcases traditional cottage garden plants such as roses, hollyhocks, lupins and sweet peas, providing a space where memories, stories and gardening knowledge can be passed from one generation to the next.

Reflecting the goals of SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, the garden brings people of all ages and abilities together in a welcoming and accessible environment. The colourful stone borders were designed and painted by gardeners from the St. John of God Blackrock Hub, who also help maintain the park and grow food and herbs in the Grow Zone. Through seed saving, plant sharing and volunteer-led gardening, the project promotes participation, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to and enjoy this special community space.
