Growing sustainably in Blackrock Park.

Blackrock Park demonstrates how local action can support a more sustainable future through its Grow Zone, Home Composting Demonstration Site, Community Wind Turbine and charging facilities. Together, these initiatives encourage responsible consumption, resource efficiency and environmental awareness within the community.

Reflecting the goals of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, the Grow Zone uses raised beds constructed from recycled park fencing to grow food, nurture young plants and support community gardening projects. At the Home Composting Demonstration Site, garden and food waste are transformed into valuable compost that is reused throughout the park, following the principle of ‘Return to the land, not landfill’. Fallen leaves collected from village streets are also composted and returned to local flower beds and gardens. By reusing materials, reducing waste and promoting sustainable living, these projects show how communities can turn resources into opportunities rather than waste.
